Random Acts of Kindness Day

Random Acts of Kindness Day

Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, and to celebrate we thought we’d propose a couple of ways that you can show your pets, wild animals and other pet owners a few small gestures of consideration.

Carry plenty of poo bags so you can always be sure to pass one on to another dog owner who has forgotten theirs.

Call your local shelter and see if there’s anything you can do to help out. Horse shelters are often in need of volunteers to help out with grooming, dog shelters might need dog walkers and cat shelters may be looking for someone to spend time socialising the cats. It’s a great way to make a difference.

Groom your pet and leave the clumps of fur in your garden for the birds. They can use it to make their nests warmer.

If your pet has turned their nose up at a particular food that you have bought them, offer to give it to your local animal shelter. Otherwise, dry, pouched or canned cat food will go down a treat if you have hedgehogs in your garden.

Cook your pet a special meal full of healthy ingredients that will nourish them, while letting them know how much you care.

If you’re a rider, offer to help a friend muck out their stable once you’ve done your own. You never know, they might one day return the favour!

Play with your pet! This may sound obvious, but with modern life being so hectic it can be difficult to remember the simple things, like just playing fetch or teasing your cat with a fishing rod toy. Your pet will likely relish the attention.

Get involved with an animal charity. There are countless ways to do this, from making a donation, buying a t-shirt, signing petitions or raising awareness through social media. A quick internet search will soon lead you to causes you care about, for instance we recently wrote an article discussing two campaigns relating to dog microchips which have both received a huge amount of support.

There are numerous ways to be kind to animals and their owners with some Random Acts of Kindness. How do you show your pet that you love them? Do you go out of your way to help other pet owners? Tell us about it on Twitter and Facebook!
